IMPDH

Inosine-5′-monophosphate dehydrogenase (IMPDH) is a purine biosynthetic enzyme that catalyzes the nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+)-dependent oxidation of inosine monophosphate (IMP) to xanthosine monophosphate (XMP).Rapid proliferation is also a characteristic of microbial infections, so IMPDH is an attractive target for antimicrobial chemotherapy. Mammalian and microbial IMPDHs display significant structural and functional differences, which suggest that it should be possible to develop selective inhibitors.
